I’ve been searching for an answer. I got it tonight. It came in the form of a script I wrote 3 years ago that was partly inspired by growing up with my big brother Robert. I find it amazing that it comes to me on this night the 2 year anniversary of his death. Thank you Robert. #screenwriting #movies #magic
The problem with Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull is that it’s not an Indiana Jones movie. It’s a Young Indiana Jones movie. One is the version we know and love. The other is the version solely created by Lucas.

It has to be said. I mean I know it’s obvious, but I’m really feeling it right now.
I love movies.
I love writing movies, making movies. I find utter fascination in the behind the scenes of every movie. I love the look at the Special FX, Interviews with Actors about there process, insights from Producers and Directors.
I love the details of distribution and marketing. The creativity and drive it takes to get the word out about a movie. The lengths people will go to. From the big bucks the Studios are willing to shell out to the creative wonder of a William Castle production.
Which of course borders into my love of the exhibition of movies. I love DVD, Redbox, Netflix. I love movie theaters, outdoor screenings. I love this resurgence of Drive In Movie Theaters. I love the many different ways you can experience a movie now. In your home or out and about with the public. I love it all.
Right now I’m flipping channels. TCM is always running something that pays tribute to those classic movies. And I love how so many channels are playing so many different movies. I’m literally surrounded by movies.
Mix this in with the fact that I’m coming to the end of finally wrapping up my own movie REDD, I’m really really feeling it.
Now more than ever is an amazing time to be both a movie maker and a movie lover and I’m so happy to be in the middle of it all.
Another pic of the princess. Yes I’m stalling cuz I want to re-write the scene real quick.
Shooting with a fairy princess today.
I don’t personally write action films but if I were going to there are certain steps I would take to really make each sequence pop:
First off it doesn’t matter how amazing a sequence is, if it’s six to eight lines back to back it’s going to turn the person reading your script off. Especially…
Another golden rule of screenwriting: SHOW, DON’T TELL. Movies are a VISUAL medium, not a book. Characters who relentlessly tell us how they feel in dialogue, or writers who overuse action lines to describe things KILL SCRIPTS. Why? Because hearing Bob say “I’m lonely and my life sucks” or reading “Bob feels lonely and his life sucks” isn’t nearly as interesting as WATCHING Bob bomb a date, or get passed over for that promotion at work. Let the audience come to that conclusion themselves.
A certain amount of exposition or statements are usually necessary, but if you can show us rather than tell us, DO IT. See WALL-E for a movie full of “SHOW, DON’T TELL.” Image (c) Disney
New shirt. In preparation for May 26th. There’s always money in the banana stand. #arresteddevelopment
It’s not Iron Man 3. It’s Lethal Weapon 6 and I LOVED IT! I am biased as I’m loyal to anything Shane Black. I know you’re thinking “but Patrick there are only 4 Lethal Weapon movies.” Then obviously you don’t watch It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia.
This was magical.
If you ever needed a reason to follow @TheDailyShow, this is it.
Here’s the original segment, in case you missed it.
It’s really what ties the whole movie together. And it’s what I’ve been agonizing over for a while now. I think I’ve finally got it. Now I can move on to the rest of the score. #REDD #indiefilm
OMG! I’ve been so busy working I haven’t had time to have a proper meal for a few weeks. Garlic teriyaki broccoli and chicken. It’s a pleasure to eat you. #ThatsWhatSheSaid
